Project Management:

In the basic project management course you will learn the skills needed to do a project from start until finish. The course takes 3 days and is meant for beginner project leaders, project team members and for more experienced project leaders with little theoretical reference. In the course both theory and practice are taught. Content of the training:

  • What is a project and when to apply
  • Writing a project management document
  • How to make a planning
  • How to use project phases
  • Working within time and budget frames
  • Communication
  • Training of ‘soft skills’ of leadership
  • Introduction MS projects and other project management tools
  • Introduction methods like Prince2, PM BOK, IPMA, PMI and agile project management
  • Working in teams
  • Projects and organizations

Day 1:

  • Introduction to the field of project management
  • Characteristics and jargon of project management
  • When to apply project management and when not to
  • Basic project structure (phasing, understanding what to do in which
    phase)
  • Planning duration, budget, resources and people
  • Writing a project plan and getting it approved by upper
    management
  • Leading a project (in terms of budget, organisation, quality, time
    and information)
  • Project administration
  • Listening skills
  • Making clear agreements for ‘deliverables’
  • Writing a project plan

Day 2:

  • More in-depth training
  • Project management and the mother organisation
  • Basic starting point of a project
  • Organisation culture
  • Project management within changing organisations
  • Preview MS projects and other project management teaching aids – Communication within and surrounding a project
  • Assembling teams
  • Motivating teams
  • Assigning roles, tasks and responsibilities in a project team – What is my position in the team?
  • Working with templates (budget, planning, action- and decision lists)

Day 3:

  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Risk management in projects
  • Why projects get delayed (and what to do about it)
  • Leadership styles
  • Evaluating and closing projects
  • Overview of different methods of project management (PRINCE2.
    IPMA, PMI-PMP, PM-BOK)
  • Introduction to agile project management
  • Recognising good negotiation moments
  • Non-verbal communication, being firm – Leadership
  • Tough’ conversations training

Course materials:

  • The project management handbook
  • Project templates (in Word and/or Excel) in which to direct your
    project
  • Project plan template
  • Folder containing reading material, exercises and tests

After this training course you will know:
– Basic project management theory
– How to avoid most major pitfalls
– Why projects succeed or fail
– How to deal with clients, team members and other people involved in the project

After this training course you will be able to:
– Write a project plan
– Direct a project
– Establish and set clear mile markers for a project
– Work with the templates for budget, risk management and issue logs
– Work out a planning
– Close a project and evaluate it

After the course you can take an online exam and receive a certificate. You can take this exam in your own time at any time you want. 

Further development after this training course…:
After the course you will have 6 months to send in your own project management plan of your own project. We will review this and discuss the feedback (this is part of the course). Also, if required we offer personal coaching to help you for a while with the development your project management skills (not part of the course).
